The Combined Array for Research in Millimeter-Wave Astronomy
نویسنده
چکیده
This tutorial presents an overview of the Combined Array for Research in MillimeterWave Astronomy (CARMA) and its use of Linux in its embedded systems. CARMA was formed by the merger of two university-based millimeter arrays; the Owens Valley Radio Observatory (OVRO) millimeter array, and the Berkeley-Illinois-Maryland Association (BIMA) millimeter array. The new instrument provides unparalleled sensitivity, broad frequency coverage, sub-arcsecond resolution and wide-field heterogeneous imaging capabilities for the radio astronomy community.

Simulations of the Atmospheric Microwave and Millimeter Wave Emission from Venus using a Radiative
Introduction: The Georgia Tech Venus Radiative Transfer Model (VRTM) can be used to model the effects of the abundances of microwave and millimeter wave absorbing constituents on the emission from the Venus troposphere and mesosphere. The primary components of the Venus atmosphere are CO2 and N2, but variation in concentration of sulfur compounds, specifically gaseous H2SO4 and SO2, result in c...

Modern microwave and millimeter wave phased array antennas are attractive because of their ability to steer wave beams in space without physically moving the antenna element. A typical phased array antenna may have several thousand elements fed by a phase shifter for every antenna, which can steer the resulting array beam to different directions. Their low loss, low cost and lightweight phase s...
متن کاملAlma Memo #440: Photonic Techniques for Local Oscillator Generation and Distribution in Millimeter-wave Radio Astronomy 10/31/2002
A number of photonics techniques are being used for Local Oscillator (LO) generation and distribution for millimeter-wavelength radio astronomy. Many of these are being implemented or considered for use on the Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) project.
متن کاملHigh Resolution Λ=1mm Carma Observations of Large Molecules in Orion-kl
We present high resolution, Combined Array for Research in Millimeter-Wave Astronomy (CARMA), λ=1mm observations of several molecular species toward Orion-KL. These are the highest spatial and spectral resolution 1mm observations of these molecules to date. Our observations show that ethyl cyanide [C2H5CN] and vinyl cyanide [C2H3CN] originate from multiple cores near the Orion hot core and IRc7...
